Different Widths of Wood Flooring

last modified: 3 years ago

Hi everyone,

My spouse and I bought our first home built in 1970 over a year ago. We have just started renovating the original kitchen and wanted the flooring to match the original floors we had refinished before moving in. The floors are 1 3/4 red oak planks. The flooring guy just told us these planks are not available anymore where we live and our option is to use 2 1/4 planks with a transition piece.

There is a doorway between the kitchen and dining room so the transition would be placed there.

We are new to home owning and do not have any experience with making these kinds of decisions. We are worried that how different planks might look and we are trying to avoid having too many different floors on one level.

Thanks in advance for any help.
