IMO the prquet was a cheap floor not anything special so I would do that and the kitchen in the same flooring stained to match the other floor you already refinished. FYI if you ever plan to move again the floors need to be decided and dealt with before kitchen renos start I know it is excitiing to want to put your stamp on a new home but living there for at least 3-6 months is always a good idea before doing big changes. IMO I would stop right now and get a n independant KD for the kitchen plan and wait at least 3 months to see how that space evn functions for you . SLOW down it is always better to have an overall plan before doing anything else. I like all one floor at least color in your case so if you have aguy who did a great job on the other floors get him to do the rest when you are ready.

Thank you Patricia. To clarify we have not added parquet but it came original to the house in one room (a design feature of all the homes in our neighbourhood). We had them refinished along with the rest of the floors because of strong pet smells in the home.

We have lived here for over a year and agree we wanted to wait until starting the kitchen. We did consult with a few kitchen designers who gave us similar plans but recommended tile throughout which we do not want. The kitchen is the second biggest room and we’d like to continue the look of the warm hardwood flooring. We were under the impression we could find planks to match the original floors but it seems that’s not possible.

Thank you @elunia!! wow, her floors look beautiful. This is exactly what the flooring expert recommended but I could not picture it. It is nice to see an example of how it might look. We are getting samples of the new planks today and will see for sure what it will look like.

It will be absolutely fine, usually I turn it 90 degrees to further disguise it.

Are you sure your old flooring is 1-3/4"? I've seen 1-1/2, but never 1-3/4". 1-1/2" is scarce but can still be found.

Yes, it is 1 3/4. Thanks sharing that site @Timothy Winzell. We are in Canada so I couldn’t find any retailers here. I did find one company that carries 1 3/4 but their height (?) is 3/8 while ours is 1/2. We are waiting to hear if its possible to lift it up a bit to make it level or something. Perhaps 1 3/4 is common in Canada, I am not sure!
