So you are keeping the floor? If so then I would still do balck so a good choice is polished black granite and Absolute black is the safe choice .

I think the off white in the floor could be hard to harmonize with a white counter - I would stick with black and then do a simple white/off white backsplash

LOVE your floor!!!!!! Stay with black countertops, leathered rather than polished. And, a simple creamy backsplash. Love your kitchen!

I would choose something lighter to help brighten the room.

Paint the walls and ceiling if you want to introduce another color. add a bit of shimmer in the backsplash for some interest. Shiny tile against a light quartz with a fine veining. your floor will look extra special.

That is one DARK room. I'd paint the ceiling to brighten the appearance for starters or apply a wood plank facing on the ceiling.

Maybe charcoal gray instead of black.

Maybe UbaTuba granite for the counters

Speaking of the ceiling, it’s painted with a shiny finish, either satin or semi gloss. When you repaint that, consider using a flat (matte) finish. And if you feel the space is dark, consider using an off white that matches (instead of contrasting with) your cabinets. It will give you an extensive surface for light to bounce around on, and your ceiling height will feel taller if you’re not emphasizing your soffit with contrasting paint.

You are replacing your counters and want to update your backsplash as well. Most black and white kitchens have a white backsplash, your current choice is a non-reflective neutral stone. Consider using a glazed ceramic tile in an off white that harmonizes with your cabinet paint. Absolutely play with tile shapes (but not grout, match the tile), and color variability if those appeal to you. Google images of white kitchens with black (or charcoal) counters, see what looks you like.

Question: can you open the cabinet doors/drawer adjacent to your oven? If not, the time to fix this is when your old counters are removed, before the new ones are installed.

Soapstone would be great. It has a special warmth to it. Or look at Virginia Mist granite. Both are not “black-black”.

Agree with a soft white, glossy tile for the backsplash.

The ceiling isn’t white and seems to clash with the off-white flooring sections and the white cabinetry. The backsplash is a brown tone. The ovens are bright white. I would suggest you replace the wall ovens with brushed stainless to go with the fridge. Then look at granite slabs which have some creamy white, some brownish and some black inclusions to tie in with the other elements.

Yes the floor is staying. The picture I think makes the room look darker than it does in person. The walls are Revere Pewter and the cabinets are Alabaster. The backsplash is definitely being replaced as it is original to the house. We are also getting a new cooktop. Keeping the oven because it is 40 years old and it still works and we like it!

The reason I ask is because we often make decisions one room at a time and end up with a disjointed look rather than a cohesive look.

Is Revere Pewter the main neutral for the rest of the house? I am not loving it with the tuxedo kitchen with the checkered floor. I do love it with wood floors and linen colored sofas and with muted blues and greens.

It can be paired with black and white, but to me it then becomes a very formal look.

Maybe you could use a coordinating blue/green in the dining area and kitchen instead of Revere Pewter. Get white counters that work with your Alabaster cabinets and a backsplash that has a mix of whites and revere pewter type greige and add blue green accents. (Maybe blue green pulls and knobs). Or get a backsplash that has a bit of blue green.
