Since this tile is floor to ceiling tile all around the room, a different tile just around the bathtub or vanity in an attempt to update will look like there was a plumbing failure and you had to patch it with tile that did not match the rest. You could switch out the counter and tub deck to quartz, but you would pretty much be limited to black, so I am not sure what the point of this would be.

It's really not something I would spend money on if you are planning on redoing the whole thing in a few years. Maybe you could reface the vanity with new doors or something as a refresh.

Honestly, I would embrace the black! Its dramatic and well done. Look for some wonderful art for above the tub.

^ agree I would leave it alone until you’re ready for a re-do — (especially the floor, you’ll likely want to reconfigure that corner tub down the road, which impacts the floor tile)

The thing that stands out most to me (besides the corner tub, which I don't love) is the white cabinetry with the very-visible hinges and hardware on the doors. I wonder if painting these cabinets black or matching beige with new hardware, or even changing the doors out would be a temporary refresh. The room looks large, well-appointed, and functional. I definitely agree that larger artwork above the tub and taller mirrors are a big improvement (as Beverly showed). I see no advantage to adding another tile or quartz around the tub unless you lose the black floor and black fixtures...which would be that bigger remodel down the line. Good luck. I’m agreeing with all the suggestions to leave everything as is and make the small changes in decor as @BeverlyFLADeziner suggests. The all over tile & B & W color scheme is dramatic but cold to me but also a glamorous look. I’d add a long runner with pattern in front of the vanity & a vanity stool to fill the open space - even if you don’t think you’d use it, having a seat other than side of tub is nice. Pick your colors & add it to space with one large art piece over tub, colorful towels & the long runner & vanity stool for vanity. That should change the entire look & warm it up with personality.

Are the counters on your vanity TILE vs. continuous slabs? I might, if I were you, change those flat surfaces that are tile to slabs,s continuing if possible to resurface the tub surround, too. But it might not be possible to do so.

Thank you all, the vanity top and tub deck are all black shiny square tile, I personally am ok with black theme but wife thinks its too cold. If we deceide to redu, does someone have any ides of a new color scheme using the same wall tiles? Also, is a chandelier in bathroom doable ? thanks.

@Jay J Funny you ask about chandelier. I wondered about one for your bath too. I’ve always wanted one over my old fashioned look slipper tub on a pedestal but was told no hanging lights over tubs per code. I have 9’ ceilings so wouldn’t be able to reach even standing in tub but maybe the risk is chandelier falling? But, I wondered if you have a pot light already in the center of bathroom? If yes, I think a small sparkly chandelier would be really pretty. If no light to convert exists, maybe it’s a possibility to add?

OK these jacuzzi bathtubs a apparently pricey ! I d hate to throw away a perfectly functioning one whats my best option to save the tub/ change vanity and countertop/tub deck. if i do, are there any better quartz coutertops available with less black, need to make the room less masculine.

B & W is a masculine look? I don’t thnk so. Besides the vanity rug & seat, new art & colored towels & maybe chandelier, you could also change the cabinet hardware to a larger handle - more decorative. Depending on how the mirror frames are attached, you could replace with silver to match hardware - or maybe even paint them silver. That would reduce some of the black & lighten up. You said you’re just moving in. I’d sure live with existing finishes for at least a year until you’re settled in & really know how it works. All the changes suggested are cosmetic, not too $$ & easy.

The tub might be expensive but it is worthless if you don't use it. Perhaps you will be the rare people who do. But most get fancy jaccuzi times and never use them. Do nothing other than decorative changes for six months. See how many times you use the tub, how you'd like to reconfigure the room. It might get quite expensive and you decide to live with it all, you might want to change everything, or perhaps you can find a happy medium. Meanwhile, give it a nice spa feel.

Similar color tiles and nice artwork that brings in a bit of blue. I'd get towels that match the blue, and add some spa like elements like nice candles, a large plant for the corner of the tub.

So you are just moving in? The standard advice is live with it for a while. A little bit of a tweak could end up looking exactly like what it is - a more temporary measure - I'd save my money for a complete redo later when money is more available if its still important to you both.

For now, I'd enjoy the space if the lighting is good and the shower comfortable, it does look like a roomy bath.

How I hope black/white aren't too masculine, I have a closet full of that combination that I wear a lot ;)

Maybe you could find a Very plain quartz in the tone of the beige/cream tile and redo the countertop and tub deck, to turn it into something more monochromatic, but even that might cost close to that of an entire modest small bathroom for labor and materials.

I actually like the wall tile and could definitely live with the floor tile. Could you put a solid surface on the vanity? And same around tub. I don’t know about the mechanics of how that would happen, just commenting on the looks. The framed mirrors look dated to me; could you replace with frameless ones? And I would lay down a vintage rug to add some femininity and softness. We have a chandelier in our bathroom but it’s not over a tub.

@BeverlyFLADeziner I will try to update the mirror, still deciding about the gut job before moving to avoid dust/construction later (if budget affords) till then, do you think these mirrors would look good, and could be used later ? current mirrors are 30x 40, i plan for sconces later

Jay, I know you’re asking pro Beverly about that gun metal mirror but since I’m here, thought I’d throw my 2 cents in. Short answer - No. FWIW, I think the angles & triangles on that Gunmetal mirror are too busy placed on top of the tiled wall with all the tile lines. Added to the tiled counter lines, tiled floor lines - way too much. Size is fine but not the frame.

Lol sorry if it offends anyone. Masculine was meant for the bathroom. Very sharp corners and stark contrast. Rest assured we both have plenty of black classics in our wardrobe but want bathroom to feel more relaxing. We decided to go ahead and Reno the whole thing !

Im sad you decided to reno the entire thing knowing the expense and that these are in good shape. I just did a number of ideas for a client for matte gloss and matte black and black /gold wallpaper, metallic /black tiles and the whole idea was super elegant and money saving.
