Can you show us the office alcove for more perspective?

You just need more art on the wall. If you're more of a minimalist, adding another black and white picture of the same size would work, or two smaller ones (arranged vertically next to the one you have already). It's an opportunity for a gallery wall if you're interested in that. There are several different ways to go about a gallery wall. They're more work, but some people enjoy them.

The bookcase is now the dominate feature, either remove it or fill the empty space with a matching bookcase, or a complmentary file cabinet.

I would do a big mirror opposite the window to reflect the natural light!

I’d do one wide rectangular painting of some kind, not too busy because the bookcase is busy.

A tall lamp or a plant in that area might work really well. It would add height and make things looks softer.

What is to the right of the bookcase? That might make a difference. The bookcase could be in the wrong postion but hard to tell without seeing the whole wall.

I like the idea of artwork framed in glass that will have the added benefit of reflecting light from the window. Cord management would also improve the space. Perhaps a power strip with a long cord would solve the issue. Tuck the power strip behind a piece of furniture and secure the cord along the baseboard.

You might consider removing the small art and stool. Then try adding a larger piece of artwork on the wall. It most likely won't need anything else after that.

In my opinion, better to tern the table and put it in front of the wall. If you are right-handed, as i can see, then it is more logical to get naturall light from the left side (from window). in this case, shelves for books and decoration can be placed above the table (like on picture from the first commentator) and the space will not looks so empty any more. if you also add some carpet and a bit bigger art with main carpet and table colours, that helps you to makes this area more completed.
