I've never grown it because I've never come across one that's available. I have seen it several times in other people's gardens. What I've seen is a very distinct rose. Miniature in all respects, very small and low growing, and blooming very early. Neither of those roses really sounds right.

Thanks, Mad_gallica. I went back and read the comments again. It's really confusing. The comment I referred to above actually calls both of them centifolia, but he calls the prickly one Pompom de Bourgogne, and the thornless one R. centifolia parvifolia.

It was Vintage that classed their Burgundian with the Gallicas.

Then there's a comment by Fred Boutin at HMF that points to a particular botanical illustration as the thornless parvifolia, but the illustration shows the short little prickles. Boutin also says it's not clearly a centifolia.

FWIW, I think most of the pictures at HMF are of what Fred Boutin calls parvifolia, but you can see in Patricia Routely's picture that it actually has small prickles. Based on pictures, I think Rogue Valley and High Country have the same rose.
