Garden editing

When I first heard this term used on GW many years ago, I thought it only referred to removal of plant(s). I now understand it to be more diverse, and the following picture shows the pruning of two Fraser firs to allow more sunlight to a Concolor fir growing between them. I try to take off no more than 2-4 branches per year on either tree, with the goal of maintaining balance on the pruned trees. It seems to be working, but not sure if it’s sustainable. There’s a large white pine lurking nearby, and sunlight is at a premium where the firs grow.

I hope others will share their garden edit strategies.
