Why don't you place a round table there?

A nice wingback chair might work. It could be somewhere to put shoes on or to read

Since it is an entryway a bench with shoe storage might be nice.

Perhaps a bench but not a table. The table, being taller than a bench would make the space look cluttered what with all of the lines of the staircase, stair trim and railing being the interesting focus.

Do you really need something there? I think the railing as cilantro mentions in a nice focal point.

It is nice to have spaces where the eye can rest.

This space already looks busy. Unless you functionally need a place to sit there or a tiny console on which to drop your keys, I would leave it empty. Your rug and railings are the decoration.

A comment: I really don't see any visual connection between the color of your flooring and the grey and maroon rug. There are plenty of Southwestern rugs that would have worked with your interior finishes in a more complementary fashion. Also, I don't exactly understand the placement of the rug. Doesn't seem to work with the traffic pattern.

Select something MINIMAL that fits the style of the home and INTERESTING. Not sure anyone needs to sit in that location do they?

Thank you everyone for your inputs, I have attached a photo of the living room, there’s currently a 9x12 Persian style rug there and the furniture will all be replaced and I will be figuring out decor. It would be nice to have a space to drop off keys and a seat to put shoes on. I can replace the rug in the entryway, I was thinking of painting the entryway door black.

A small chair and table (as per your request for a place for keys and putting on boots) will work if the proportions are right for the space. It just a round table for keys could be perfect.

I agree with a small simple table, but something not too busy, as there is a lot going on at that intersection. i agree that it should be round or oval, because you already have so many straight lines. Maybe a plant. if you have an outlet, you could place a smll lamp there for subtle lighting and visual interest.

If you can find a gossip bench that fits the space, you will have both a place to park your behind and your keys.

It’s a nice space for plants! You could do different heights in neat looking pottery to match your decor. Or just a couple of tall pieces of pottery.

No chair or bench in that corner. No. I dislike the look of shoes as a focal point when you step into a home. Clutter in this area? Please no.

Place a shoe bench next to the sofa, aligned where the shopping bags are. Doubles as a tabletop. Get one of those with doors or baskets to hide the shoes.

We don't have a picture of the entry door so hard to say if a Black or similar would work.

The black iron railings almost seem a bit “outdoor” for that small space. I love your floors and wall,colors, it’s very natural and harmonious. Any designer want to come up with a railing that is a bit more gentle for the space?

Paint them white? What about a soft green or blue?

You mentioned you will be buying new furniture, so that would be my first step, as it‘s a major decision affecting all other decisions. Given two major factors: front door location and staircase proximity, a good layout will be really important and if you would like advice, provide the layout/dimensions and even better, plans for room’s use, ie: tv viewing, amount of seating, etc. Then move to decisions on style/decor, staircase, accessories and color of door.

Pour through lots of inspiration pictures for help before adding anything.

I love the table in Maureen’s last photo. That size feels perfect for your entryway.

Thank you so much everyone for your suggestions! Here is the updated photo of the living room/entryway. I’m trying to decide on furniture. There will be a fireplace that’s going to be installed on the right side wall. I’m attaching the empty room as well as a design that I’m thinking of implementing. I’m open to all suggestions.
