I just finished reading your descriptive article regarding window treatments. We recently moved into our home and are at the crossroads of purchasing window treatments. We love our big black frames and don’t want to insure them or our mountainous views but understand the need for energy efficiency, privacy, and furniture/flooring protection. We are looking at top-down/bottom-up for bedroom to see stars while maintaining privacy. What would be suggested for main living areas?

I ,like solar shades for heat and UV control they allow you to keep the view and provide daytime privacy but I use drapes usually for night time privacy so show us what is the issue with actaul night time privacy. BTW the darker the shades the better the view so I do 10% and either charcoal or bronze .Please get a mantel to span the whole width of the FP and deeper to actually be a mantel
