I dont gow top cream, but cant imagine anything competing with MdeA for fragrance...and health! I have on and intend to grow more for cutting.

I read that Madame Anisette gets very big and doesn't bloom well when days and nights are hot. I am curious if Top Cream is similar or if it blooms better and stays more compact? Is Top Cream as disease resistant as Madame Anisette?

Madame Anisette is very prolific for me. And huge. She wants to be a climber and we're finally building an arch for her this year. I've been pegging her but she sends out so many laterals full of blooms that she leans over on neighbors. She definitely needs support.

This is about 1/3 of my plant. Vigorous on own roots. I cut all of this in the photo below off of her and you can't even tell.

In cooler weather she's blush colored.

I don't grow Top Cream.

I don't know about hot nights. We usually cool off at night even in summer.

My little second year MA had to be moved this year , she has just one candelabra of buds at the top of the cane about to pop. I cannot wait to see her mature.

Berrypiez, may she be happy and prolific for you, too. I'm interested to hear how big she gets for you and how she does with a colder zone winter.

Kordes, like any other of the rose breeding establishments has produced some exceptional roses. They have also introduced real, 'dogs...bow-wows.' I cannot tell you how many Kordes roses I have tried, and ended up giving the heave-ho. Yet, my Kordes Quicksilver has proven to be phenomenal. A cast iron, super charged blooming fool of a rose is just how I begin to describe it.
Don't beat yourself up for doing the deed. It comes with rose gardening. Believe me, you will look back and increasingly feel good vibes in knowing that you did the right thing.

I have both, but Top Cream is only this year's planting. So far, I can say that TC shares MA's good health -- if anything the leaves are more lustrous; TC seems to also want to grow UP, but only time will tell if it also wants to grow out; blooming wise -- TC is setting buds as a new planted own root rose. That is something the MA took two years to do. Top Cream just radiates good health and an eagerness to grow and bloom!

update on MA vs. TC:

MA -- three flowers total this year; totally upright plant habit, healthy foliage

TC - fifteen flowers total this year; broad full outline (about 30" X 30"), shiny dark foliage

I think the repeat on Top Cream is far better than Mme Anisette. TC repeats quite regularly. Mme A is a big spring flush, a long wait, a few spare blooms. Both are very fragrant, TC is pear and lavender , Mme A is anise and biscotti. Very distinct scents that smell different from other roses. Top Cream is merely a large HT, Mme A is a shrub monster.

Another to consider is Gruard Larose, which is super profuse blooming (i’d say the best of the three) and also nicely scented.

How's the disease resistance of GL?

Top Cream has been spectacularly healthy here -- no spots of any kind, and dark green shiny foliage.

MA -- hardy and healthy, but gets small "rusty" colored spots of some kind. The foliage is not pristine.
