How quickly does Miscanthus grow during the season?

I’m trying to figure out if I can plant a peony behind Miscanthus ’Gracillimus’. I was hoping peonies would flower while the Miscanthus is still emerging and growing, and then as the season progresses the Miscanthus would hide the peony. Does M grow faster and reach full height quickly once it emerges, or does it take a while so a peony in bloom would be easily seen if planted behind? This question concerns NOID standard pink bush peony.

Also, I have the same question regarding daylilies behind Miscanthus, but I’m thinking that daylilies bloom too late and would be hidden by the grass. Anyone with info there would be appreciated. I do not like daylily foliage at all!
