I realize that I haven't posted here since the Pre-announcement of the trumpet lilies, which are long gone. In the meantime, I have struggled with thrips in one garden and earwigs in another. It has made a hobby into a strenuous job. The season's performance has also gained some clarity. There are some cultivars that actually have better bud count than usual. For example, the Gates evergreen Sultry Siren has twenty-something buds, as does the Stamile Soft Summer Night. They must have enjoyed the Southern winter (minus some cruel cold days). Otherwise, you know the refrain already: many with low bud count and height (though not a problem with others), some just not doing anything, and ravaging insects. It sickens me to have to use chemicals, but I have succumbed. At the estate garden, they saturate the rose beds with chemicals. You never see a bee.

Lilium Regale Album on June 19. Not as full as usual. Some liliums in other gardens disappeared or had few blooms.

Mister Butters --what a shot of color. Still blooming, and one of the earliest.

Chico Tim on a smoky day. We had about a week of this.

Handwriting on the Wall --great performance this year, but on a smoky day. You don't realize taking the pictures how much smoke will show up.

Thomas Tew --big and bold, even in the smoke.

Early Shirley --so many blooms destroyed by earwigs. These are not a problem in the estate garden, but thrips are terrible there.

Sputnik. An early Davisson. Very nice.

Painted Demon earlier. Just loaded with blooms every day.

Stop the Car --another smoky one.

Black Falcon Ritual --great performance, but a battle with thrips.

That Lily is gorgeous. A true white. Most Lilies don't do well in our soil or our climate, but they can be beautiful and worth the room for the foliage to age out for others............Black Falcon Ritual and Stop The Car are my top two favorites of this batch. Painted Demon is another one that's interesting.........Maryl

What a great clump of All American Chief! I need to move mine-it is just a so-so performer. Handwriting on the Wall is another outstanding clump. You know I like Butter Cream and Stop the Car looks aptly named. Looking forward to more.

Wow! I love the look of Sputnik with the pinched petals! Chico Tim is appealing, and I always love a good clump of All American Chief. Mine had its last bloom today. Sorry you had to battle both earwigs and thrips. The thrips were awful here, and I had to spray several times. They're exploding again now that its been raining for three days.

So many great daylilies to see here. Still the One caught my eye today….I have it, itsent up quite a few scapes but they are so short. I wonder how the blooms will look.

That is a wonderful lily clump. Mine have disappeared, I am guessing predator squirrels.

What a lovely clump of Lily Regal. I have pretty good luck with lilies fortunately. I was really surprised they did as well as they did this year, Several were up growing pretty well when they got nipped, buds were fewer, but they all still bloomed some. Early shirley has never done all that well for me. Not that early, and not as full of blooms as most Davi's. Love your Sputnik though!

Beautiful lily as are your photos. I know what you mean about putting chemicals on the garden but I have a lot of bees constantly in the garden. So I have tended to error on the side of using organic sprays. I don't think they work and not sure if Bobbex is even safe.
