Strange flower stem Foxfire Palm Sunday

I've never seen something quite like this, this flower stem is flat and narrow. Any and all others are normally round. It is almost a half inch wide and one eighth inch thick. Has anyone else seen this or is it normal? Would this be considered a fasciated stem or flower?
