Deck refinishing- stain opinion!?

last modified: 3 years ago

Hey all,

I’m working on refinishing a 30 year old cedar deck. It’s in good shape, even though it’s mostly directly exposed to rain, snow, sun. A few boards I will need to replace.

In the past it had a Behr semi transparent stain, re-applied every 3-4 years (bot stripped, just over coated).

Now that I’m back to a complete reset on this deck - completely stripped bare wood, I wanted to get your opinions on protecting the deck and making it easy to maintain. I’ve been recommended Benjamin Moore Aborcoat water based stain, Ready Seal oil stain, Sharkskin primer/sealer then semi transparent stain. Any thoughts on these or others? Water or oil based!? I’m leaning toward water.

It’s about 800 square ft, light traffic.
