Adding one more combo we both liked because basically same size and as current stuff and so we know it would fit and it reclines and would only see side view but I can’t even tell if this is ugly looking or not :(

Once you’ve nailed down the furniture, it’ll be easier to know what colors/looks you want. Hopefully some of the great pros will chime in after the holiday. It’s a nice room!

Lila - I honestly couldn’t tell on that last one because it’s so small in person. I do like what you showed but thought maybe 3 different colors upholstery may be too much. I kind of like at least 2 matching. Something to consider since it looks nice in your pic.

Yes that’s way I played with the pillows to bring everything together. If you want to go with gray couch then it has to be the exact same color and same fabric of your husband gray chair.

Another question- I could also instead of the round swivel order the swivel from the same Harris line as couch and recliner. The fabric would be very similar to the even though it doesn’t look like it in my pic. Which would be better?

The first one is more interesting. This one is very cookie cutter, but might be more comfortable. If you have West Elm in your city go try both.

I have tried all the west elm and they are all comfortable. For some reason crate and barrel doesn’t have the round one on display at any stores by me. I may try the outlet today and see if they have one there.

I am very lucky there is literally every store and outlet within a 20-30 minute drive by my house.

I’m in south Florida, we do have many stores but only one outlet (RH)😞. Good luck with your trip, and keep us updated .

Yes! Agree with @Redrider Go a caramel sofa with a caramel accent chair, gray recliner. Add area rug with all colors. Pillows to bring it all together.

Thank you - I Love those but my problem is the recliner is grey. I also don’t love the carmel color with my floors so I would only want it in that one corner where it will have rug in front of it. I could just do the lighter color sofa and matching swivel and add some carmel/grey in pillows. That’s where I go back and forth on the daily and can’t make a decision.

Lila - nothing at the outlet store but the online reviews are good. I need to go to the reg store and see if they have samples of that color. That might rule it out. I only have a sample of the west elm one. I’m an 25 miles west of chicago and even more stores in the city but they’re more expensive.

I like the leather option. I'd also like some texture, and I'd lose the white tables.

If you like the white, then try something like the stone topped metal

but I think this warmer wood option would look nice.

Beth, I like your first and last 2 pics. I looked at leather and besides the extra cost it seemed too heavy with my shiny mahogany floors and no else here likes leather. The round caramel swivel is a micro suede which I don’t have a sample of and the matching caramel swivel is a performance velvet that looks suede . I was all ready to order the ivory sofa, swivel and grey recliner and started 2nd guessing myself. My living room is all charcoal greys, black, ivory, some oak antiques and ivory with beach glass walls.

what if you did a velvet? I hve the Article black leather sofa, but they have the velvet like or the regular material in other tones. I love the sofa.

You really need some of the warmer pieces to ground the space. leather chairs, the side table, dark glass table, look at the pillows too. it all works.

Definitely planning on some wood on that side of the room. I used to have a wood coffee table but swapped it out for round because we had a blind dog whacking her head on the corners. Past the hallway opening I have a vintage dark wood and black iron writing desk. The grey fabric is called a distressed velvet and the 2 ivory ones I considered and the caramel color are a performance velvet. The round swivel is micro suede but they may have a velvet. I’ll look at the article website.

The problem with Article is that they don’t have performance fabric, one of my friends got this off white couch( first picture) it looks way nicer than the picture, but it’s impossible to clean, and she is very disappointed. Also look at Rove Concepts, I saw this suede blue couch in person, and it’s absolutely stunning, but I find it not very comfortable with a fairly hard cushion.

I have the Article Sven in the black leather. I find it very comfortable and a nice quality leather. not the cheap 'bonded' leather. it's not my everyday sofa, so maybe your friend should have gotten something more expensive.

I would NEVER get a white material for an everyday sofa! that's just insane. (and if you do choose to get one, you're going to have pay a good price for something that holds up. Well over the price you pay at Article. it's not only the material, but the quality of the foam that you have to take into account as well. you want something firm that isn't going to lose it's shape, taking the material down w/it. That costs money)

if that's what you want, then get a throw you can put down to cover the bottom cushions while you're using it. fold it up when not in use. that will preseve the fabric. I have a custom made sofa in the other room we use everyday. We've had it almost 20 yrs. I reupholstered it about 10yrs ago w/a nice fabric. (the original one was nice too, but hated the colors. 20yrs ago the sofa was made for $4500. 20+ yrs later and it's still in perfect condition) I never sit on the cushions w/o putting down a blanket or throw. it just keeps the material a lot cleaner.

Thanks Lila - one of the reasons I was looking at the sofa and matching swivel that are same as the recliner is the fabric quick ships were performance fabrics and they are both slipcovers that can come off and be washed or dry cleaned. What will get used daily use in the room is the recliner.

Yes for the slipcover. I think you should go with your plans, then have fun choosing the rug the pillows, the decorations and the flowers. Keep posting pictures about your findings.

I just really still don’t know which to get. Match the couch to recliner or match the swivel chair to recliner. The recliner seems to be calling the shots. I am not worried about white furniture in there now I will figure that out after the upholstered furniture is in the room. Only non negotiable is wood desk you see as you enter kitchen and fr. Being older it will be the last time I buy upholstered furniture for the house so that adds pressure to get that part right.

Then last night I added 2 more shown below instead of narrowing down. I just worry a leather couch will be dated in a few years.

It should be possible to find the caramel color in something other than leather. If you are hesitant about leather, don't get it. But my suggestion for the leather couch was more about bringing in another neutral color that wasn't grey, black or white.

@Beth H. : We covered our couch seats for 17 years due to a spoiled cat. Even though she is gone, I often cover the cushions to preserve them.

Yes, we’ve always kept covers on seats too having always had 2 dogs but currently no dogs. These are the fabric colors available from west elm Harris line and a pic of what the grey looked like in person.

These were in my original selections but he really doesn’t like leather but maybe I can talk him into it. The grey flows better with the living room though. I’m ridiculously indecisive. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Caramel fabric sofa (velvet) might work for your husband. And navy blue is never wrong.

I really hesitate to post my living room because I like it and don’t want comments on it. The ottoman is only left over from the blind dog I have a different coffee table. But I want family room to flow with living room and all look like it’s part of the same house. That I think is mu biggest issue.

I will be able to somewhat see the whichever recliner the grey fabric or the caramel leather from living room couch.

Another question - we decided not to do the grey power recliner after all this because the cord is really short and we’d need to run extension to an outlet and he read you shouldn’t run under a carpet. He just narrowed down to the pictures. I like the straight lines of the black one but he likes the roll arm better but he’d do either. The one he likes is more a camel color leather not carmel and I need to decide quick as it’s at an outlet store. They are so different in style. Help

Nevermind - I got the tan one. I wasn’t planning any options with black and I’m sick of looking at furniture. Hopefully it works out!
