I think lighting on either side of a mirror is ideal for doing make-up. Recessed lighting really is too harsh, I wouldn’t add it. Maybe a tall skinny lamp next to the mirror you use for makeup?

I am helping with a bath with a similar layout and space/lighting dilemma. We are going with a full wall mirror with four linear lights through the mirroring.

Thanks @RL Relocation LLC, there are already canned lights in that room. Are you saying I should add additional overhead lighting directly over the sink area?

yes you have lights behind you those will do nothing but cause shadows.

@RL Relocation LLC, Thanks. I had also been told that lights overhead would also cause shadows on face so to avoid that.

I know this is a PITA but all that lighting should be LED 4000K if you do not want to look like aclown when doing makeup . A dressing table in the bedroom is no different you still need really good lighting. Have you tried a lighted makeup mmirror on the counter they even have a magnifying side and easilly put away when not in use ,

@Patricia Colwell Consulting The recessed lights are 4000k LED. They are SUPER bright so the room has a glare. Luckily, I do have dimmers. I feel like since they lights are behind me, it might help if lights were added above the sink. It could be that I'm just adjusting to it since I used to have canned lights over my sink in soffits before the remodel. I will check out the lighted makeup mirror too. Thank you for the suggestion!!

IF you have lights behind and in front shadows are not a problem. I would have opted for over the mirror here, since you already have a look just add more recessed
