I would keep the trim color, but, repaint the shutters, or remove them. Some times shutters are just ornamental, and add something to some houses. Quite honestly, yours dont add anything, they detract from the house. If you really do want to keep them, try to match them to a color in the brick. You can leave the door, its fine.

I too would remove the shutters and paint the siding and trim, including doors from these shade options. all these shades compliment your brick.

if you want to accent your front door, a bright Geranium color would be a fun splash of color.

Your roof isn't this dark, but this is a similar look using those colors above.

I'd also revamp the garage door a bit. maybe remove those pop-ins on the windows, and get the Carriage Iron hardware (amazon, about $45)

Here's a quick mock up, next pic, (BTW, if you want mock ups done, you're goign to have to submit better pictures. pics that face straight on, aren't tilted, nothing blocking what you're trying to mock up, and large enough so that you can actually see what's being done. )

I tried doing something diff here, but it's tilted and very small because of the picture quality.

Anyway, here's a darker taupe garage door, you'd have the same matching fascia trim color, cedar post, a deocrative cedar truss in the gable, black shutters, black door, new light and address placque

Also, that darker taupe/griege color would look beautiful if you ever had thoughts of limewashing (Romabio) the brick. pair it w/copper accents and you'd have this look.

I love all of these colors w/a limewash or mortar-wash. (it's just an option for you)

ignore the liimewash for minute and just look at these color options. W/your red brick you could also go this route w/trim and accent colors. for the post on the porch, I'd look for a stained wood in this darker tone (maybe do the decorative truss in this color as well)

Green was alos mentioned earilier. paired w/copper and bronze trim tones like SW Urbane Bronze, it would also look nice

Instead of the regular blue you have, you could use something in this range for the shutters and front door

If you still want your blue, then try some of these with once of the neutrals for the trim

Using the ecru color of the windows in the scheme, paint the horizontal siding darker gray, and paint the brick white (it isn't the loveliest of brick siding). Paint everything else the ecru tone...front door, garage door.

Absolutely no shutters on the windows...awful, awful, vinyl, attached to siding, don't fit appropriately, spoiling the look of the exterior.

@Beth- thank you for all the thoughtful options you gave. I apologize our picture isn’t great. That tree in the front blocks the house a lot so i tried to take a more angled photo. I love the idea of the cedar/truss/porch wrap. That is awesome. I’d like to take off the shutters but need to trim the windows somehow to make them pop. Can you see a picture i have above from when the new windows were installed? You can see a better front view of the house and how boring the windows look without the shutters. I’m thinking some type of decorative trim…. YOU HAVE BEEN SO HELPFUL. Thank you!

You don't have to trim out the windows (my inspiration photo shows how untrimmed windows look against the gray). But, please remove the shutters.

@elcieg- I realize the shutters need to go and that they are “awful, awful”. This is how the builder did the house and how most homes look in my neighborhood. I think absolutely no trim looks bland. The picture you showed in gray is from an all brick house and there actually is more of a trim/ledge on the base of the windows. Thanks for your input.

You have received some good advice, so I don’t have a whole lot more to say. I would normally suggest losing the shutters, but it looks like your siding is faded underneath, so you may need to keep them. I assume that’s vinyl siding and you probably don’t want to change/paint it. If so, I would just go darker and muddier with the shutter color. The blue you have now just has too much chroma. Sherwin Williams Dark Night (first photo below) looks great with most red/orange bricks. The second one is Urbane Bronze and the third is Basil. I also think black would be a great choice, as Beth suggested.

The rule of shutters is usually, "shutter size must corrospond to the window size" in other words, if you were to close the shutters over the window they should meet in the middle.

I don’t think the shutters are ”awful,” and I agree that the house looks bland without them. I just think they’re jarring in the blue color, since there isn’t much else blue going on. You could go bold and paint the garage door the same blue, though that would draw even more attention to the wrong features! I love the darker taupe on the garage door that Beth mocked up, and would just carry that color onto the shutters as well and be done with it. That would improve things 100% with the least effort. As you pointed out (sharp eye), all the pictures without shutters have some other accent on the windows: ledges, added trim above, or contrasting trim and mullions.

This would make such a difference. The windows would be great with beefier trim and no shutters.
