My first question always with built ins is what do you have tha requires display waht I find usually is a bunch of stuff that needs to not be displayed . So the inspo pic has vases that are a collection and honestly IMO 1/2 of those would be enough. No to making the FP look like the kitchen with matching tile . Were those low cabinets meant to be seats beside the FP? If so then no shelves above at all. IMO what is needed is some art with some color the TV mounted now above the FP but able to be lowered for proper viewing height The soaf facing the TV and 2 chairs . Hang some art above each bench and do the FP in large format tile that coordinates with the kichen but not matching

It looks like the tv was meant to be placed above the fireplace because of the electrical outlets - not a great idea. It may look good but your neck will always be tilted up and will be uncomfortable. I speak from experience. Place the tv BESIDE the fireplace at eye level and hang a large picture above the fireplace. I would build white shelves on either side and paint the wall behind the shelves black to coordinate with the kitchen. It will add interest and drama.

You can definitely do built-ins around your fireplace, however you might first consider where you want the TV, if there is going to be one in the room, then go from there. See our various designs here which might show you what your room could look like with built-ins.
