I would not have the master bedroom door open directly to the living room or any other 'public' space that would allow a view into the bedroom.

The bedrooms upstairs are for weekend guests. (My adult daughter/husband and 2 granddaughters.)

What seems to be out of alignment on the 2nd floor? We had the architect redraw the plans-hope he didn’t create a problem. ☹️

Originally the master bedroom was lakeside and the kitchen and dining was where the current master bedroom is. We had it redrawn because of where the septic system and the well need to be located on the lot. My husbands garage (36x42) would be right outside the kitchen and dining room windows! The garage is only 8 ft ftom the house. ☹️

Creating a proposed furniture layout during the design of a house helps to determine if the room is sized and configured properly.

"Great Room" is typically a large space that contains an area to prepare food, an area to consume food, and an area to lounge.

If north us to the top of the page on the drawings, the east wall of bedroom #3 should align with the wast wall of the vaulted space on the first floor; unless there is some unknown reason for them to be offset.

Some jurisdictions will not allow a detached garage to be less than ten feet from another structure.

Move the hanging clothes to the opposite side in the master closet and put it behind closed doors. Then move the door to the bedroom to the closet and come in through the closet instead of the bedroom.

How wide is the island? It looks too small for 4 chairs. You need 24" for each butt.

The architect drew 4 stools, but I’m planning 3 chairs only.

Not sure about moving the master bedroom door to enter thru the closet. My husband said that would be a tight turn to get furniture into the bedroom and I’m thinking my closets are never very neat looking.

The side of the house with the dining room is East-that faces the lake.

No he is saying make the closet reach in, make the bathroom run along same wall as the stairs and then be able to shift where door to bedroom is.

In terms of room sizes, the proportions are a little off. The Great Room is too long for it's width, unless you want 2 seating areas. The Master is a bit off too. The proportions are a direct result of the design concept.

If you are starting from scratch, I would have gone in a different direction. I don't see a reason the stair and other things can't move to allow an entrance to the house to be more aligned with the Great Room and view to the lake, rather than scurrying by the Laundry, Powder, and Mech and squeezing by the island. In fact, I would even rethink adjacencies by placing the Kitchen next to garage and getting a view to the lake through the Great Room while getting more sun, and the Master in the northeast corner for a view other than the garage wall alley.

Also, I recognize budget is a prominent force on the design, but maybe a 1 1/2 story would thrice be cheaper, work well with a vaulted Great Room (and then Kitchen and Dining), and be better serving to upstairs guest bedrooms of a cabin than a full 2nd story popping up by itself in the overall massing.
