The 2 most northern hardy Yucca species are Yucca flaccida and Yucca filamentosa. They look very similar, but Yucca flaccida has pubescent flower stems and filamentosa has smooth, (glabrous) flowering stems. I'm growing Yucca flaccida. I think they might both share the same common name Adam's Needle.

Very true about a pool. When my kids were young, I told them if you want to swim, make friends with someone who has a pool, no one we're putting one in.

At this point in my life I am way more interested in their landscaping :).

Ken, I like my yucca. It never needs watering, even in droughts and it's almost maintainence free, except for cleaning out the dead parts once a year. Removing them is the nightmare. It took me 10 years to finally kill one. Their roots go deep. You sound like you've grown them before Lol.

Nice photo, great looking yucca plant! I've at times come across yucca filamentosa wayyy up in my northern region, my attempt though I guess I hadn't well situated the plant and it would just sit and sit doing nothing, might try again in the open garden aspect, bundling up the foliage and covering with a styrofoam rose cone would help ensure survival, or maybe I won't bother, lol.

Jay, yucca glauca is likely the most cold hardy species, it grows in a limited southern range of Alberta and Saskatchewan and had performed very well at my previous residence in central Alberta, I should again obtain a plant.
