That is a tiny scale insect.

I don’t ever recommend alcohol - it damages the plant’s cuticle. Homemade ”remedies” really aren’t effective and safe.

not all insecticides work on scale....

and many scale are impervious to topical applications.. so yo need a systemic to get inside the plant.. so when they suck it up.. they die...

Actually, isopropyl alcohol alcohol has been used safely and effectively for the control of soft bodied pests on plants for years…..generations. Most plants are well equipped to handle alcohol without any damage whatsoever. Scale crawlers, mealybugs, mites, aphids, and others are nicely controlled with a spray, a wipe, or a dab of alcohol.

As a matter of fact, some plants are very sensitive to insecticidal soaps, and a search in advance of their use must be made.

In your case, I would take a soft cloth like a wash cloth, dampen it with water, then dip a portion of it in rubbing alcohol. Wipe the scale off gently without scraping. For those nooks and crannies, mix a diluted solution (1:1) of water and alcohol and apply in a plant mister. Keep the misting bottle handy and apply often.

in general, I agree with iochroma wholeheartedly about home remedies. They can not only be damaging to plant tissues, but also be a waste of time for the user.
