kitchen table diy advice

I have a sturdy black dining table that has some surface damage from placing a hot plate on the table years ago. I’m wondering if there is a way to reface the table or how I might be able to take this table and turn it into something like new. Any DIYers? (Please ignore the clutter we are cleaning out cabinets)
