I have no experience with Howdens, but when it comes to negotiating I figure that it never hurts to ask. I’m not comfortable doing it myself, but my SO will ask something like “can you do ###?” (Price maybe 15% lower.) Or “can you work with us on price?” The worst they can do is say no, and you’ve lost nothing by asking.

“Retailers do not negotiate. Do you negotiate what is in your pay packet each week?”

Retailers negotiate all the time. I just got $100 off a saw at Home Depot and way more than that off the heat pump I just got. My wife consistently asks if stores have any discounts or promos going on and regularly gets a discount just because she asked.

I also negotiated my weekly paycheck.

In any case, I find that almost everything in retail is negotiable. But it may not be a cash discount. You may get some kind of extra service instead, such as free delivery, extended warranty, or free cabinetry add-ons such as a light rail or drawer inserts, or any number of things.
