DESIRE OF NATIONS if very pretty. Sad that it is slow to increase. Have you tried moving it or just digging it up and replanting it? I dug up Primal Scream several years ago as it was 3 plants for years. I put it back in the same place with fresh dirt and it has been amazing ever since, lots of increase, bud count is up, etc.

Fringed Sweetheart is very interesting with the large frilly edge.

Desire is naturally slower to increase. Cosmic Shiner has nice color and teeth. What can you tell us about the hybridizer--Sherman? VG Starbright can vary here. For a few years, I got lots of splotchiness; then, hardly any at all.

It could be that people north of here have fewer of the scape height/bud-count issues. Here we had a double whammy: the February warmth followed by 14-degree nights in mid-March and then three weeks of hot sun and no rain in late May and early June (night after night, the happy-talk weathercasters told us how wonderful the weather was, until finally it dawned on them that most of the area was in drought). I have many Hansons and Davissons that have bad bud count this year, but there are exceptions.

Snow cover does make a difference. Some people farther north rave about plants that here were a flop. Sometimes, a few years later, they too experience issues.

Everyone I know says Desire of Nations is slow increaser. I got one of its kids this year, Hawking Radiation by Derrow, but it hasn't scaped yet. Alone Again looks pretty in both your shade and sun pictures.

I can't really tell anyone too much about the hybridizer. I saw Cosmic Shiner and Cosmic Legend in a friend's garden in York, PA as I was heading home from the Free State Daylily Society Sale and Auction. I really liked COSMIC SHINER and it has been on my list for 2 years. I think they are located in Indiana, so I decided to order Cosmic Shiner. They have several others that I like and may order some others for next year.
