Are you saying that your rails and stiles are one inch thick or one inch wide?

I like both 1/4” and 1/8” inset on slim shaker. The 1/4” will have a strong picture frame look that will draw your eye to the rails and stiles, while the 1/8” will be more subtle and draw your eyes to the panel. I guess that I slightly prefer the 1/4”.

If the rails and stiles are thin enough (like close to 1/2”) then I might even go 3/8” to 1/2”.

Mine are 1/4”.

I have a fairly thin shaker style. My rails and stiles are about 1 5/16" wide; reveal is just under 1/4"; door thickness at edge is 1". FWIW I originally wanted a thinner shaker style (sample door in bottom picture.) Those doors were thicker and the reveal was deeper, for stability per that cabinet maker. I ended up going with a different custom cabinet place due to lead times, and what I have is the skinniest shaker they offer. I have the option of pulls on stiles or next to them; with the skinnier shaker I would not have been able to put the pulls on top of the stiles. That was fine with me as I like the look of the pulls to the sides of the stiles, but it's a consideration if you're going skinny shaker. Pics below.
