Prunus-Type Trunk?

This bush (usually around ~3' tall) with red bark similar to various Prunus species was found in the Central Texas Hill Country (back in February). There was Prunus serotina var. eximia (Escarpment Black Cherry) in the area, but based on others on site, this wasn't that. So, what is it?
