What age is the house? I'd do hex in a pre-1900 to 1930s house, and octagon-and-dot in a 1940s to 1960s era house. For a newer house, I'd just choose whichever you prefer aesthetically. And for both, the color scheme is pretty contemporary--far more common today.

The top one is my choice. It reminds me of a pharmacy that was converted to a restaurant in midtown Atlanta. The floor was in great condition and worked perfectly in its new life.
