accent wall ideas

Going for an old Florida vibe, with a modern update.
Should we do an accent wall? Perhaps a big wallpaper motif or paint?
What else would you do to this space?
Thank you.❤️

For me the furniture is very dark for that look you want . I ggogled old Florida bedrooms since I really had no clue what thta style really was . The rooms seem to have lighter colored furniture and more lux bedding and lighting . I did this wallpaper in my guest roomand every time I go in there I smile I did the space in ablack and pink the walls the same color as the creamy one in the wallpaper . It was very affordable and really easy to install Maybe look at those types for th wall and then adjust the bedding for a more lux look.Maybe some more elegant lamps I used sheep skin rugs on either side of the bed instead of a whole rug.

This is what I think is old Florida decor

Looks like you've got a great start!

    the rug is nice.

I would add tall mirrors behind the lamps

and wallpaper the ceiling for interest. not the style, but the idea

If you are considering doing something on the wall, suggest grasscloth and to save money and a tedious job, suggest fake. I think it would be a great compromise in combining the two looks.

I find the boxiness/straight lines/uniformity is the problem though.

Softer bedding would be nicer and less stark with your rug and dark furniture.

A bench will create a more layered feel and with a more spread out art, these will help break up the squareness.

Here’s a feel of what I’m suggesting - a layered room with inviting accents.

You could paint it or wallpaper it but it's hard to soften the dark furnishings

I would do the whole room in whatever you choose; an accent wall would look half-finished. Love the idea of grasscloth! Or a fabulous wallpaper with foliage to soften the edges of the room. I love your bird picture.

Some curtains over your shutters would also add softness and texture.

If you don't have allergies, consider putting drapes behind the headboard. Nothing as noisy as this, but just someting luxe looking, and then put your heron print right in the center of the drapes. I would do the same drapes on the window wall

So I changed my mind a bit: I'd still consider drapes behind the bed, but not the whole wall, just to the include the night tables. And I would leave the window alone, unless it needed a simple valance.

I would do striped drapes like this maybe

    or

those are about $50 a pair, and I think you would probably need 2 sets (4 panels)

My inspiration is The Gibson Hotel in Apalachicola.
I love the ideas for softening and layering. The washed color palette is gorgeous.
    Thank you for inspiring me!!!

I don't think you can get much more "Florida" style than Blanche Devereaux's bedroom. Not advising you to use this directly but you could use it for inspiration for a more toned down version.

Lose your bed frame and slipcover/upholster your headboard in a lovely Florida color picked up from your bird print. You can mix dark with light furniture, but I would layer your Persian style rug over a faux sea grass rug for depth and a tropical flair. I LOVE your lamps! Have some fun with this look!
