Dumb question: That's a torx screw and requires the properly-sized torx screwdriver. I assume it's the screw that spins, not the screwdriver because you're using the wrong type (e.g., philips) or size, right?

Correct - the screw itself spins in either direction. The screw head is not stripped. I've tried needle nosed pliers, duct tape, nothing works.

I'll admit I don't know the solution to this, but decades of DIY adventures suggest to me that there may be some non-obvious trick other than what you're trying. Have you called Miele tech support?

Miele support had no suggestions, other than to send a technician out in two weeks / buy a new door.

Yes, by "down" I only meant down into the frame. Can't for the life of me figure this one out.

The photographs are shot from so close up that it's impossible to know what one is looking at. Can you take some photos that would provide more context? You removed the door from the range, correct? Are the photos of the top of the door? If so, does the "finger", when extended, stick into a hole or slot in the door frame?

Are you sure the finger is called an "anti-lock device"? Can you post the diagram?

I'd pay the $16 for the service manual. Access is denied to the diagram, perhaps because it's on a German website.

I'd install the door without the new glass and see if the hinges control it. Open the installed door and then install the glass. Or clamp it retracted and remove the door to install the glass.

I had the same thought about the hinges and put the door back on the oven but the anti-lock device still did not retract. That is the problem - it is fixed in this outward position, so I can't clamp it down in any way.

Continuing to search through the Miele manuals, I found this in a troubleshooting section:

The oven door cannot be closed.

As soon as the inner pane is damaged, a safety mechanism blocks the oven door. The oven door cannot be closed and the oven functions (oven modes, special modes and self clean) cannot be used.

This sounds like what has happened, tho the manual offers no suggestion for fixing it.

That would explain it. The "finger" detected that the glass was broken when you removed it so it popped open. I don't know how the inner pane is attached to the door and can't tell from your photos. Is there a slot for the glass, for example? If so, can you put, for example, a screwdriver or ruler into the slot (to simulate the glass) to release the finger and allow it to be closed?

The innermost piece of glass just sits on rubber spacers above the other two pieces of glass. The top slides into a channel across the top and the bottom is held in place by brackets. I don't see any mechanisms that would release the safety bolt - I've tried the glass itself, rulers, screwdrivers, etc.
