How old is your air conditioner?

You say freon level is good, but say unit is leaking profusely?

What is it leaking? freon or water (condensate).

Keeps putting a band aid on it? Is it a home warranty company or a real HVAC service company?

While older AC's can be repaired, sometimes it's not a good path to take. Due to age, among other issues it may be better to look into replacing your AC.

Unit was freezing up? freezing up can be caused by a number of different problems, not just a single problem.

Cleaning an AC is only a small part in how it operates. Cleaning it won't fix all problems. It's a job best left to a professional in person. Not a knock against you or your husband, but not a good idea to take on AC repairs without professional training (trade school / not youtube or DIY boards).

You betcha, either get a different hvac friend (the one you have is a dud) or hire a professional to check it out.
