I would suggest to use good quality porcelain tile over marble tile for your bathroom floors. Marble is porous, susceptible to staining with hair dye & make up remover & some soaps. Marble may also react and stain when exposed to acidic products, you need to use marble safe cleaners. Porcelain is very dense, less subject to scratches, staining, and chipping; it is quite water resistant. You can purchase porcelain tile to look like stone and wood. A few years ago I had high quality Italian porcelain wood look tile installed in my front entry hallway and bathrooms. My porcelain tiles are easy to clean; they look as good today as the day of installation. Just about any experienced tiler would tell you to use porcelain tile for a bathroom floor.

I tis always good to show the space you are working with . I am not a fan of square tiles in many small spaces . I do think checkerboard design works every where so post a pic of your bathroom as it is and the things you plan to have in the new one. Post all of that here in comments DO NOT start another post.

If you follow chris loves julie look at their blog . they did the same look flooring but its porcelain in their laundry room and she linked the tiles ! theyre affordable and from lowes ! last i checked they were in stock !

Yes, we are going with porcelain but wanted people to understand the look we were trying to achieve.

I do not have pictures of the space. It is a second home for us. But also I am set on the checkerboard but understand it may not be for everyone!

But yes I know about the Chris Loves julia tile! They are very pretty but our contractor balked at having to make 4 cuts to each tile. He worries that we won’t be happy with the results which I understand. I’m nervous about it too which is why I am ruling out any rectangular tiles.

You just need to go to a better tile shop in your area. There are options available; go check what appeals to you. Clients sometimes do not realize the scale with using the 2 tone pattern. They'll want to know how wide and long areas are as that will help visualize how the patterns fits.

That is why we need a picture or at least a to scale floor plan. Tile layout is a big deal \and a good tile shop can help a lot with choices

I think that 12 x 12 is going to be more difficult than a larger tile to find.
