Do natural stone counters need protection from small appliances?

We are installing Taj Mahal Quartzite counters. We are wondering if we need to put a silicone mat or something else under the coffee maker and toaster? Also wondering if the mat was permanently there under appliance would it eventually discolor (or alter aging) the countertop?

I have used Taj Mahal in 2 houses and never put anything under my toaster oven or electric kettle.

The only appliance I like to place something under is the slow-cooker, specially when cooking something for 8 hours and I use one of those clear glass cutting boards with rubber "feet".

Just have a wooden cutting board with feet, that you use under extended heating appliances like toaster ovens, air fryers, electric skillets, or crock pots. Thermal shock breaks are a real thing with natural or man made stone.
