Knobs would add some softness to all the right angles, however I don’t think I would do black. Unless your hinges are already black and you don’t want to swap them out.

Levers, much easier to open when you’re carrying things. Also ergonomic for all ages and great for sore hands. I wouldn’t do black either. You’ll need to post long shots/show your style to get help with color.

I wish all my doors had levers. Not only easier to open when carrying things, but when it is cold, when it is humid, when hands are wet, when you are wearing gloves ....

For doors you use a lot, like from garage to kitchen or mudroom, levers are really easy to use when your hands are full. They are also easier for young children or the elderly to use. You can find very simple levers so you still have a sleek look.

Levers for all the reasons listed above.

Black hardware on a black door will be hard to see. I'd go with something lighter.

If you're young and don't plan to stay in this house until you're old, your choice doesn't matter. On the other hand, if you're not so young, you should definitely go with levers, as they're easier to open.

Disadvantage of levers is stuff gets caught on them, like a purse strap or outerwear or anything that would get caught on an open-ended handrail. I used to have a lever on my coat closet and stuff was always getting caught on it. Also a dog can open a lever in case that becomes an issue for an exterior door. Otherwise they are beautiful, easy to use and elegant.

Knobs are fine if the shape makes them easy to open. They may not be as easy if you put lotion on your hands.

I like to match hinges to the knobs/levers.

I like round knobs on interior doors, and levers on exterior French doors. But it's really your choice--either one is fine.

If you already have black hardware, then carrying it to the door hardware (including the hinges) makes for consistency. Black is a more rustic and casual look, if that's your aesthetic. I personally don't think that it would be hard to see on your door--you kind of already know that the handle is there!
