You can select a decorative sconce or you can select a light fixture that would be consider a bit more architectural.

I think RedRyder's 3rd photo is the right style for that spot (but be sure to note the measurements and then go outside with painter's tape and see how it fits).

But here's what I think overall: You need to light the door alcove. What might be really nice is to have a lantern in the ceiling above the door

and then replace your little sconce with a very simple down light that lights up your house number (which I hope is not too many numbers!) Stack the numbers down.

You can put the “decorative” fixture where the old one is, but you do need to light up the area right in front of your door. Even a recessed light will work.

Or get a sconce for the wall and a matching/complementary fixture for under the alcove.
