Kitchen Window Dilemma

last modified: 3 years ago

I am remodeling my kitchen (proposed design pictures below) and an considering removing the window to allow space for a double oven wall and 48” side by side fridge - 36 inch is on current design.

Beyond the proposed peninsula is an eat-in area with large windows and sky lights so natural light shouldn't be an issue.

Am I making a mistake? I can’t see another way to accomplish this in the space.

Edit: I already own a 36” induction cooktop that I love and a JennAir double oven I am trying to integrate.

Added dimension photo.

44 1/2 from wall to window trim

54 inch window (trim edge to trim edge)

89 1/2 inch wall with fridge (cannot be extended)

Yes it's a mistake, because the design seems flawed from the get go.

Why are you using a cook top, when you could use a RANGE and only one other oven, or just use the range and a convection microwave?

The opening where the fridge is located.... how large.....what's that open TO

Post a FLAT on paper drawing with the actual walls and all dimensions, the cabinets and appliances, and the window and opening to dimensions, and the breakfast area and surrounding whatever included. Feet and inches exactly.

We don't need the PRETTY COMPUTER elevation as posted.......feet and inches please on all.

Use back wall without peninsula. how many feet from corner to the very end of wall to left of cooktop? youcan use greater depth counters to your benefit once the peninsula is gone. then the island can be longer. You can have Spot for fridge and oven stack at the far left of cooktop ……if you can't work in a range as suggested. keep the window.

I agree if you want help here we need a to scale floor drawing, all windows , doorways where those lead and every measurement clearly marked . Use graph paper it makes it easier Post here in jpeg format and DO NOT start another post on this subjest all your questions and all of the answers are all done in this post. I do agree no need for a double wall oven either get a range wit 2 ovens or a range with one more oven if 2 ovens is a must,

Thank you all - I’ve added an edit to add measurements.

A to scale floor plan does not mean the cabinet company's plan only the flor plan no cabinets all other things needed use graph paper I want to see the space with nothing in it .

Giant mistake. Natural light IN the kitchen is the best design element you can have. An overscale appliance showroom crammed into a dark kitchen is a horrible idea. That plan is just not very good.

What does the original plan look like, before your cabinet seller and appliance salesman began tinkering with it to earn big commissions?

I'd start over, if at all possible and relocate cook.........( 1/4 inch to one foot below)

    Eliminate the peninsula.

Keep the fridge to 42" max if you can't live with 36".. Use a drawer micro in the island and make a bigger island with a ton of drawer storage, which can hold nearly ANYTHING . Yes dishes, glassware, pots/pans.

Unless there was a reason, for the not great design as is, I wouldn't use it.

Kitchen design BEGINS with appliances - I'm not sure how you came to your posted plan unless a cabinet seller , budget restrictions, or plumbing and electrical limitations......and why the appliance issue is coming up after the fact.
