Add 24" door with shelves behind. A local cabinet shop, a decent trim carpenter. Paint the vanity. All of it including new doors.

I'd look for a nice clothes hamper to put there.

Is there any chance the bathroom would look charming if the vanity had a skirt? Because then you could buy useful storage modules for cleaning products and extra towels etc but hide them attractively.

Do as Jan Moyer recommends but also consider a pullout shelf under the sink, and pullout shelves on the side that is open now with doors.

Well, now that I see the photo I would definitely put a clothes hamper in there or else use a skirt if the storage is needed.

The 'very strange plumbing configuration' may be the driver of what is easily possible. Not knowing what that is makes it pretty much impossible to have any ideas outside of hanging a curtain. And curtains would be a big PIA because curtains will always be in the way of seeing and accessing the stuff behind them. As well as getting soiled by makeup and other personal care products.

Not wanting to spend implies the need to DIY. So we need to know what DIY skills & tools are at hand. Along with measurements.

You can always shop FB Marketplace and other venues for second hand vanities/ storage solutions if there is a modest budget.

And, yeh, a clothes hamper 'fix' only creates a bigger problem of what to do with all the stuff that is in there now.

First I would suggest going through the products and getting rid of stuff that isn't used or has expired. Most of us have too much stuff!

It looks like you could potentially have a few doors made and then placed there, maybe some shelves inside too? Otherwise we might suggest just leaving the area blank and adding a bench.
