I used Emtek, in their Sandcast Bronze collection, for all my door hardware. Also went with the 28 degree latch option for the levers.

For cabinets I used TopKnobs.

Have been in the house for 18 months and no issues with either of the products.

28 degree latch means that you need to turn the handle less to open the door. See image below

I've had good experience with Emtek cabinet knobs and pulls, but their door hardware sucks. Our house was built with Emtek on 2 garage doors and the front door and it ended up all being pulled off and thrown in the garbage. There are MUCH better choices.

@strategery - care to elaborate on why you were unhappy with Emtek and what alternatives you would recommend? We are in the process of picking door hardware and our contractor is recommending Emtek.

@quality bath (I can't link you oddly), thank you! I had Emtek on my old house front door, but only used it for 3 years. We initially had issues with tightening it, but it was related to install not the hardware (door frame was replaced and door hardware replaced). @strategery what brands would you recommend? I love Rocky Mountain (they have all 28 degree levers in my experience) but thati's more than I want to spend on front and side (and garage interior door) hardware!

Yeah, Rocky Mountain makes some really beautiful and high quality hardware, but as you said, definitely a higher price point than Emtek. If you'd like I can try and work out some discounts for you on either the Emtek or Rocky Mountain to try and make it a drop more affordable. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@earthlyepicure - we will probably just go with Emtek. It seems like there are plenty of people who are happy with Emtek, our contractor has good experience with it, and frankly I've reached decision fatigue after all the decisions we've had to make for the remodel.

I highly recommend going to a proper high-end door/cabinet hardware store and actually touching and using the hardware before buying. It's a fun, physical experience. Talk to the experts there. After all, these are items which will be constantly handled in your home (pun intended). Skip the big box stores.

I did this at a couple of stores in the Toronto area when building (e.g. Upper Canada Specialty Hardware). Great experience.

My problem with Emtek was that the levers sagged and always had a certain amount of unsatisfying wiggly looseness which could not be fixed. Even the plates/escutcheons were wonky. So... I reported the problem to Emtek tech support and sent them videos. They agreed that there was a problem. When I contacted the local dealer I purchased from, they refused to do anything because Emtek tech support had been engaged, and they said I had to go through Emtek directly. Back to Emtek I went, and they refused to help saying it I had to go through the dealer. Next step: Junk pile.

I ended up changing our 3 Emtek units to INOX (Unison Hardware) to match all our interior units. INOX is awesome and their support is fabulous. The finish and quality is far better than Emtek.

There are so many better choices than Emtek. Emtek is barely mid-tier in my opinion.

Baldwin (a perennial favorite), Rocky Mountain (rustic, very $$$), Hoppe, INOX.

We used Baldwin lever handles on all the internal doors. It's been five years and we are still pleased.

@Louise Smith do you recall if you chose a Reserve vs. Estate lever? im looking at lever 5162 (estate) or the square lever (reserve) and am curious if the added expense is really worth it for interior doors.

I’m doing the Reserve mortise locks for the front door.
