I've had one instances of a daylily putting out a different color bloom then going and staying back to normal. One out of a whole lifetime of collecting them. A genetic thing? You can see those rare instances in genetics in people or animals, a throwback to an ancestor in the linage. On garden.org you can trace the ancestry [if known] of a daylily if you know your daylily's name. There are thousands and thousands of varieties so if you don't know the name, this is not an option. A climate thing? Mine happened on an exceptionally cool day. you may never see this oddity again.

did you fail to deadhead seed pods last year.. or the year prior...

some varieties can grow under roads and sidewalks like the common ditch lily ... but most just clump and dont wander around...

as clumpy as yours looks.. i would think its a rogue seedling.. rather than a wanderer ...so im thinking the new one is not the same as the other... its a seedling of the other..

any idea what the other 3 rogues are???above both discussed plants.. again.. individual plants..

I suspect your surprise daylily is a seedling from a seed that fell from your clump. Daylilies aren't hard to grow from seed so I suspect that happens more than most of us realize. If the purple and pink blooms were on the same scape, I would suggest that it is an environmental issue. Sometimes the color of a daylily can vary a great deal based on temperature, especially nighttime temperatures. Cool temperatures often bring out deeper colors. We have a seedling that usually blooms coral, but when nighttime temps are low, it is more of a rose color.
