I'd rethink open concept.

It's not going to look right if you put a different kind of tile next to what you already have, and it doesn't sound like you even like what you have very much. It's more common these days to have the same flooring throughout the first floor at least. Usually that's wood, but if you're in a hot climate tile is frequently used. The wood doesn't look right next to the tile either, but if it were a darker brown (the same brown as is in the tile) it would work. Since you don't like wood in your kitchen, I don't know what to tell you. If you put the same tile in the kitchen with black cabinets that will make for a very dark kitchen. Whether that's a problem or not is up to you. How much natural and artificial light will you have in the space?

If you don't really like the existing tile but it's not in the budget to replace it right now (but you would be able to replace it in a year or two), put whatever you want in the kitchen, buy enough for the whole area and have it laid in the area outside the kitchen later.

not fond of tile floors but even so I'd not hesitate to put something more simple /plain for the kitchen area. I wouldnt do gray tile. the lighter rosewood or putty color in the shown tile is where I'd go for a solid...maybe marmoleum...very plain but resilient would be my preference for a kitchen and I'd like something other than the darks you are working with. You could perhaps find a green tho.

here's a solid marmoleum kitchen floor up to a different wood floor. Pull your better tones [not gray] ..and dont fear a different material in the kitchen..just not a complex piece. If you had an area for butcher block for counters..along w simple light counters that would be nice. Good Luck.

I have similar 2 1/4” original wood floors in our 80 yr old house. Our back door - which everyone uses - is in the kitchen, with a straight run through the kitchen into the rest of the house. Just too much of a heavy traffic path to put in wood. We used a 12 x 24” gray tile, although the opening is not very wide - not really open. I have also seen on TV where the kitchen tiles - similar 12 x 24 tiles - were set on a diagonal to the flow of the wood floors in a more open design.

IMO open concept requires all one flooring so unless you are prepared to do thta keep what you have. Wood floors have been in use in kitchens for a very long time and IMO just nicer than tile always . Tile floors are hard on knees, feet and bcaks so this IMO is a really goo time to swith to wood .I grew up in a home with all woodfloors and lots of kid traffic all the time no big deal a few well placed areas rugs took care of the wear for sure.
