How couples tend to choose vanity sides?

Is there a traditional answer to which sink women or men usually take in the master bathroom? (Double vanity of course) I actually live by myself(F) a 2 b/2.5 bath. It’s a dual master, actually but the main bedroom has a double vanity. It’s a bit of an awkward layout since on sink is in the doorway and one requires standing between the vanity and Side of toilet to use (and the side with the one towel bar next to you). I know it shouldn’t matter since I live alone, but both sides are relatively inconvenient and I just thought this question may help me finally set my bathroom up.

Well, my husband uses the right-hand sink because he is left-handed and wants the elbow room.

My two sons had a double sink in their hall bath. They both used the left-hand sink because it was furthest from the door (no getting hit by the door, and a bit more private if the door was open). They were rarely in there at the same time.

We always select according to which side has more storage or countertop space. Girl gets the biggest cabinet/countertop/storage because she tends to have more stuff. Guy gets smaller space. It doesn't matter if the space is the same.

In one of our homes, one cabinet was taller, the other was shorter and he got the taller side. In another one I got the bigger side and he got the smaller one. I don’t recall how we chose for our first home. But in the house we are building now (it’s almost done, we should move in within weeks) we opted for a single sink vanity with a good amount of drawers and yesterday I asked him “do you think you’ll be ok with one drawer? Do you want this top right one?” He just rolled his eyes at me and laughed and said “I guess so...” LOL! I do actually think he’ll be ok with one drawer though. LOL!

I don't know if there is a traditional side for each gender--in the US anyway, but my mom was on the left, and my dad was on the right, so that's the unconscious paradigm I developed as a child. However, my hubby and the other posters above all based it on personal preference....

My hubby and I are rarely in our bathroom at the same time as we have young children--okay, really kids 1-17. :D We've been in this house 6 years, and it's our first with a double vanity. Turned out we both considered the same sink to be our own sink, haha! That (left) sink was the first one by the door and had the most storage access. The sink near the toilet has just ended up being the wash-your-hands-after sink for both of us. Everything else we need to do at a sink is done at the other sink.

If you live alone in a multiple bath situation, you could convert the double vanity to one with a single sink in a more convenient position, possibly just by changing the top. It may be relatively simple.
