If your shingles have been painted, then, they need to be painted. You would have to strip them down completely to use stain. Yes, stain would have been the best, but, it is way to late to even look at any stains, since they already have paint on them. Pick the color you will be happy with, but, dont forget the roof.. What you really want, may not look so good with the roof, unless, of course, you plan on changing the roof.

cat_ky The roof is a green/gray, which I think could work pretty well with a variety of colors. It is not going to be replaced for at least 5 years, at which point I may do cedar but if not, I'd probably stick with the same color as I like it.

I know I like this look in the inspiration photos, just confused about how it will translate to paint, and my house.

I like the brown and cream on the house, but not with the roof. I'd stick with the gray, or some other color taken from the roof.

I agree with PPF, the gray will go much better with your greenish grayish colored shingles.
