Repairing etched glasses

I have a punch bowl that was handed down to me by my mother in law. In the set are a dozen glasses, and about half of them have what I can only assume are etching, as I've tried soaks in vinegar, scrubs with barkeepers friend, wipes with acetone, anything I could think of to try to remove what I initially thought were hard water marks. The consensus with etched glasses seems to be be "just use them and enjoy them, or get rid of them" but these are part of a larger set that that is specifically only for occasions where company is over, and they have sentimental value.

I understand that etched glass is generally considered to be irreparable, is there any way that I could polish the etching off of them? I'm willing to devote time to this, but I don't want to waste time trying more stuff that won't work.
