Seeking ideas for master bedroom refresh

Hoping to get opinions for a master bedroom refresh. Wall color is currently BM Manchester Tan (HC-81).

Trim is an unknown white. I like the wall color as it plays well with our shades which I don’t want to change. I plan to paint our bathroom BM-1676 Northern Air.

Windows face south. As a result, my drapes have been bleached out. Was thinking about getting white linen drapes (maybe blackout) from Pottery Barn.

What do you think about adding board and batten on the headboard wall and paint either white or the bathroom blue?

Something like this.

Or this.

Or should I do it on the window wall?

Walls are ~9’. Ceiling is another ~2’. Had also thought about adding trim detail on ceiling (both slope and flat).

Thanks for looking. Would love to heard your ideas!

Bumping as I really hoped to receive some feedback.

I think the Manchester Tan is holding you back. A creamy white would be so much more fresh, and wouldn’t necessarily affect your shades because they go well with the floor.

Your furniture is mid century modern, I’m not sure that the wall idea will work with it. When you see it done,it is almost always with a solid headboard. If you are happy with the walls, your thought of linen drapes will look great IMO. Changing the throw cushions and bedlinen will change up the look, you could continue with a more textured linen

I think your room is lovely and I also think a change in a lighter color for the curtains would be good. I could see changing the wall color but I think lighter curtains will work really well.

While the board and batten in the examples you posted look really nice, I think B and B is a little bit overdone and your room is more timeless.... and interesting

I don’t think board and batten will work because it will be interrupted by the windows.

In my view less MCM, more traditional, except the dresser. White linen blackout drapes Fuller than current drapes. Coordinating all 3 lamps in traditional vibe, with taller lamp on the dresser. Change dresser hardware. Creamy white on the walls and follow suggestions given for bedding, and add a pop of color with accessories. The tree in the corner might find a happier home. If you want some ambient lighting a tradioanl style lantern with flickering candle on a timer, or remote could sit in the corner by the rocking chair.

I would leave the walls, and put up some art work, and draperies with the blue in them, that you are wanting. The walls look a bit stark, and could use art work, or decor.

What do you love about the room and what are you willing to change?

Your room is not suited to board and batten. The clearstory window and tray ceiling would be fighting with it.

Personally, I would be looking for a bed without the tall posts. I think the room would look better with a solid headboard. Not a big upholstered headboard, but a vintage, wood headboard.

I would get white lampshades, new bedding, carpet and curtains. Get rid of the white tree.

I would also change the lightbulbs in the lamps to daylight light bulbs (less yellow).

Thank you all for your comments. I truly appreciate the feedback. This room has basically been like this, with the exception of the bedding, for 9 years. I love our natural cherry shaker furniture, so don’t have any plans to replace the bed, dressers or nightstands. Yes, the tree can go and actually is a hangover from last Christmas.

Agree that I need to add more artwork. Pieces I have are on the other side of the room.

You’ve convinced me to forget the b&b idea. That will my my DH happy.

So, think I’ll look at a new rug and curtains. Under the buffalo check duvet is a PB white pick-stitch quilt (you can see it with the Christmas bedding). Planning on making a quilt one of these days to work with that. Will determine pillows then.

    Thanks again for your help!

You can add some wall art from both side as well.
