Help with custom chair!!

last modified: 3 years ago

I bought a chair that I saw in a store, it looked good in the store, so I ordered it in custom black leather. Now that it has arrrived in my home, I hate it. It was not cheap and I can't return it, but it's not comfortable and I hate the blonde wood, My living room is full of dark woods and flooring. I'm not sure what I was thinking??

Please send your advice.

Sell it or give it away.

i made a mistake years ago picking a plaid fabric for 2 chairs and an ottoman. i just ordered from a swatch that was shown to me. Big mistake. We could never match it to window treatments.

The difference though is that these chairs are super comfortable. And , until recently looked almost brand new. We are finally going to replace them after 20 years.

For me, comfort is key. If it was at comfortable , you could forgive it and let it stay.

As it stands, you will always to reminded about your mistake.

    Life is too short.

It would be more beneficial if we could see the entire room.

I guess a stupid question but did you not sit in the chair in the store.? Why black leather in your space ? I do need to see the whole room but I think the light wood is a bit wrong from what I see and that could be adjusted ,I am not sure what you were thinking either but now lets see if we can fix some of the issues . I would try to sell it but I sure would stop at giving it away . Post the pic of the whole room post here in a nother comment DO NOT start another post.

Paint the wood black in a semi gloss finish. Try B.M. Advantage as it works great on cabinet wood.

Why can't you return the chair to Crate and Barrel?

Give it to a consignment store or sell it online. You won't get all of your money back but you could put the proceeds toward a new chair.

You poor thing - I feel your pain of being disappointed in a result! Couple questions come to mind - Is the lack of comfort perhaps due to leather type used & maybe extra firm padding in construction? That is, does it need to be broken in to be comfortable so it will improve over time? My sofa is like that - for years I kept sliding off when sitting on it. The sales person said it was heritage furniture & would outlast me - boy was he right! He also cautioned that when we received our expensive Italian made sofa that it wouldn’t be as comfy as the show room model which was very broken in. Right again! Another question - is that a recliner? If you really hate the blonde wood color can the chair be dismantled enough to refinish the wood? From the little we see of the room, IMO the chair works with all the black I see. And, you know, we don’t want all matchy-matchy even with wood in our homes. Could the chair be used in what looks like artist studio behind it? Place in front of that interesting black piece on wall, angled & facing into studio.,,,, maybe needs a small drinks table in lighter color or in black sitting next to it….

I like it also. Since you can't return it then maybe give it some time to see if becomes more comfortable once you break it in. Can you move or rotate the rug, so the front feet of the chair are on the rug?
