The 1st is something in Amaranthaceae but that is about as far as I can go. It is a large genus of desirable & not so desirable plants.

The first looks to me like Chenopodium album or a close relative (indeed in the Amaranthaceae). The second, I have not a clue :-)

I back an Amaranthus for the first, there are seeds in the pics quite clearly

Top is definitely Amaranthus rather than Chenopodium.

Thanks so much everyone! Never saw anything like these before, like I say I get new types of weeds added every year.

I'll go pull the Amaranthus but keep the needle looking one until it flowers, and hope I don't regret ))

Location was given under the last pic - Iowa.

Could be, they never gave a location so I just guessed. How do you know the location?

The location is stated after the last picture. Easy to miss but it's there.

Carolb_w, thanks for the link about Palmer amaranth, I now know another weed, Water hemp, which is really bad in IA fields. I have it too, got in with the 'landscaping' soil we bought.

Re location, I will be more mindful of that, remembered at the last minute I was asked about location with my last id request. When I first started on GW I thought just zone was enough.. Because I do have several more I am trying to ID myself but so far no matter how I word a search I can't find them.
