I do love Plantaginea's blooms. This plant is from my Mom's garden and her Mom's before her. Now my daughter is growing it in her garden. I cut a few of the blooms and put them in the kitchen. Every time I walked in the kitchen I admired the beautiful scent.

Lovely. I have yet to see or smell a Plantaginea bloom. I have 2 plants, one 6 years old and another 2 years old. The plants seem to struggle in this warm climate even though they’re supposed to be good for this zone. If Honeybells smells anything like it, your garden and kitchen must smell lovely.

Nice, it’s died out a dozen times here up north. doubled up finally survived the winter. so after all these years i get to see the blooms in my garden. excited to see it in a week or so.

My absolute favorite, for that amazing scent and memories of my Grandma. She grew them all along the north side of her house. Mine are not blooming this year, but they are in a difficult spot and i will move them. Meanwhile, here are two of my favorite fragrant ones, not fully open on this cloudy, cool day.

plantagenea is fabulous! I had 'p. 'Venus' years ago and it never bloomed and petered out. Beautiful everyone!

I got Ki-ren-jyaku for the flowers, still in a pot. Please excuse my dirty gardeners hand.

I have one for several years now. This year no bloom, but it did bloom other years.

Bob Solberg said it needs sun to bloom. I am pretty sure he also said it can be grown in the house! (I have not tried that. It's rather big for the house!) Maybe I will try it one day.

No wonder it is called "August Lily". The largest of all the hosta flowers.

Ken used to have a photo that showed just how large the flower really is.

Peren, I noticed your Royal Standard flower has so much violet color in it, beautiful! Mine are always pure white. Wonder why……..🤔

djacob - peren.all, I had for several years what I thought was Royal Standard. Last year I found out (here) RS has pure white flowers, mine has violet. I'm now reasonably sure what I have is Ventricosa.

My Venus finally opened up today.

Debra my Royal Standard & Guacamole often have a mauve tint to them, they are in quite shady areas. Fragrant Bouquet is white but it is in sun. It could be my more northerly zone too.

Thanks old_dirt. I think I IDed your ventricosa a couple of years ago. It has shiny leaves and the flowers are a much deeper purple.

My plantaginea is in a spot where I lost some trees, and I couldn’t keep up with the weeds and grass that overran the area. It’s on my list to move this fall. I didn’t think I would have blooms but I got a lovely surprise this morning!

Doubled up finally let its firstflower open. scapes are really short. not sure if that is because it is tet or the 3rd year of drought taking its toll.
