Sofa sizing/shape question

last modified: 3 years ago

Hello all! We need a larger sofa. I want one that will allow me to cuddle with my littles, but this is also the main living area when guests come. The room is open and appears larger than it actually is (usable space for furniture is only 12x13). The sofa will face the fireplace/tv. I want the largest one I can get without throwing off the proportions in the room. It seems that if I get a section/chaise sofa that I could get away with something larger because the chaise would run along the window wall. I've been reading a lot of posts that suggest a sofa and ottoman combination instead. I would probably prefer that, but I'm wondering if I'd have to get a shorter sofa in that case to make it more symmetrical or if it's ok to run it close to the window wall? For reference, the loveseat we currently have is 65 inches and from the far arm of the loveseat to the window wall is 10 feet. Any advise is welcome. Also suggestions for depth that would work for cuddles and company. Photos are in comments because I can't figure out how to add them here.
Thanks in advance! Buying a new sofa is daunting.
