exterior accent help?

We have just repainted our American Four Square exterior from dark tan (how we bought it years ago) and we haven’t put the shutters back up yet. We feel like it needs either navy shutters or navy window trim paint. Something to add subtly but not detract from the door. Either way, it feels incomplete and “ too light blue.”
(We know the bushes need trimming!)
Thoughts?

IMO sidelights are part of the door so paint that whole door structure the yellow the only windows that can get sutters are the ones on the 2nd floor so I guess some navy ones might work. I think some cleaning up of the landscape could really help Maybe lower bushes some color and even maybe window boxes under those larger windows . I think the overgrowth hides the house .

Since you're not used to the blue it might look like a lot to you, but I love it. I agree with Patricia about the shutters and the landscaping. Maybe a project for next Spring. Don't put navy around the windows. The white is perfect.

^Agree…leave the shutters off; keep the white window trim.

The only thing I might have done is use a slightly softer, but still rich, yellow for the door. This is just my color “ tone” preference since the house blue is softer while the door is super saturated , kind of glowy.

But, I have no idea what actual yellow that would be, so there’s that.

I love your exterior and think it you add some potted flowers and maybe a lantern next to door it’ll look more complete. Bright pink flowers would look good with the blue and yellow. I know you said you were going to trim bushes back but after doing that you may want to plant some of the same flowers that you used in the flower pots in front of bushes to pull the eye down.

I agree with Patricia about painting the sidelights yellow since they are part of the door. I also agree with trimming the bushes and I would bring in some yellow flowering plants. I don’t think you need shutters.

I love your house! The blue-yellow contrast is absolutely perfect. I would definitely do navy for the 2nd floor shutters, yellow and navy blue is always a cheerful color combo.

Great color choices! Agree with painting the sidelights the same as the door, then reassess. I think it will look lovely without the shutters.

Having only seen your house without shutters, it definitely doesn’t look like it is missing anything. Maybe two large well placed planters in navy would be the only thing I’d add.

Navy is going to feel like the circus came to town. I disagree that you should paint the side windows around the door yellow as well. What you have looks good, but I agree that something is missing. Do your landscaping then reevaluate. That might take care of the problem.
