Backsplash colour advice

Problem: the wall behind our bathroom sink faucet needs protecting so we want to install a backsplash.

But what colour? Solid or patterned? We've already got a hodgepodge of colours and patterns going on. Walls are slate blue, cabinetry is vertical cream and beige stripes, counter is marble black with sparkles, and further away, our tub enclosure is white with decorative shades of blue tiles.

You have a lot of texture going on so I would lean for sleek and simple behind the sink. Something that goes from sink to bottom of shelf, either the black marble if thin enough, or a glass subway that matches the slate paint (which is lovely) or - third choice - white.

What is the tile on the far left of the last photo? Can you match that? I wouldn’t add anything new. So either that or your countertop material.

Susie that tile is the decorative tile that appears at infrequent intervals within the bath enclosure. I think it's too busy for abive the sink, although I did think about it as well! Thank you for your comment!

Definitely run the black countertop up the wall for backsplash. Any other tile (even if simple black) will reflect light differently and cause a chaotic break in the wall.

The vanity is a permanent fixture and should look like a single unit, so the backsplash should be white tile to match the sink or repeat of the black with sparkles. Give yourself options for color scheme change down the road - don’t lock yourself into slate blue

Bob, I was referring to the off white tile, definitely not the accent piece. It would seem odd to me to add a different tile on the same wall and plane. If you didn’t already have the off white tile, a white backsplash to match your sink would be nice. However, I think that would clash with the existing tile to the left. If you have extras of the off white tile, see how it looks with the sink. Matching your countertop is probably the best choice, though.

I would be hesitant to add a tile to the mix and would probably look at a simple tempered glass or maybe even stainless steel - you could get something custom on Etsy pretty easily

I would just do a 4 inch bs that matches the sink material

Definitely match the sink. Smooth and simple. Good luck!

If you can match the sink and maybe lower the mirror (but then I’m only 5’2”.

Either a white subway tile or the countertop material will probably work best for you to run behind the sink.

It looks like you already have a lot going on with different textures and tiles. If possible, we might suggest using the countertop material. If you can't do that, then stick with a very simple tile that is white or black.
