That is the cutest cleaning crew ever!! I don't think you should worry about not having every square inch of the floor covered with rug. The runner looks a bit skimpy and I know it's difficult to find them wider than 3'. So, I would go with the larger rug and one to match or coordinated by the door in a smaller size.

I see two issues:

First? I think the new console is (still ) too bulky for the entry! I realize everyone wants a console and lamp /mirror at the front door, but this isn't working well, here.

Second,...... you're perhaps trying to cover too much floor. Once feet are dry? Or wet/ soiled shoes or boots are removed? there is no need to plaster the floor with coverage.

5 x8 looks too wide for the six foot space. !! Can you get a 4 x6 at the entry, Get just in front of the heat run and covering a tiny bit is not an issue) .....and you don't need the rug slammed up against the threshold. Then? leave blank space!

and just do another 4 x6 beyond that?

It was also my first thought that the console is too big and it complicates your rug options. If you must have something there, how about a smaller console and set its front legs ON the rug. Or put the console elsewhere and install a wall-mount shelf/table.

the console is way to wide that is throwing you options off. Also, can switch the glass door so it opens into the room - this will give you a clear open space and make the space seem not odd shaped

@Jan Moyer I was playing with the 4x6 idea a bit, I actually love that idea!! However the space between front door and stairs is 5’, which only leave one feet gap and the 6’ width will also cut into stairs path. Not sure if every time going up and down stairs will step into corn of door mat be a nuisance…any thou?

You need to put down a floor covering at the door the really helps guests do the right thing of cleaning their shoe soles and makes them feel at home. You need a table surface close at hand so they can set down a purse or the bottle of wine they brought t while you help them take off their coat. And it is nice to have something attractive and warm on the wall to set the tone. That's it.

Since that's all you need at the entry, suggesting you move that big storage console down to the side of the stair, where it is useful for dumping kids' stuff and mail etc. A hallway mirror should be near a coat closet but you only need one. If a rug looks nice down the hallway, put one there. More imprtant I think is plenty of nice art on the wall or family photos, including historic family photos.

I’d have a 3x5 front door rug with a runner beyond. Your floors are lovely, so I wouldn’t worry about the runner being too narrow.

Try this, and pardon the mess. I didn't love ANYTHING better. No it won't look weird, and that's plenty to enter on, and fills the void at stair bottom. Empty the entire foyer and tape this off

The console is ugh heavy, and not sure its even in a good place.but you left off dimensions!!! I can only guess where the left side of closet casing is, and how many inches from entry WALL, It's 36" plus some more lol

Also, what you REALLY need there is a shallow bench and a sit spot for shoe removal, and the tall mirror from end of the runway over that bench: )Don/t freak..........
