No matter what you decide on the shingles, I'd consider a darker trim.

What does the stone look like?

Why are the shingle gapped like that? Initial install they should be tight to each other. The Bleaching stain will start the bleaching (or graying) out of the shingle happen quicker. The shingles will not darken, period, they will turn naturally light gray, only sooner because of the bleaching stain.

Ok, so now what? Do we try to stain darker over? Ask them to reinstall because they’re too far apart?

Your cedar will gray. You can't get the weathered look instantaneously - but the cabot stain will speed the process as mentioned.

As an aside - I think the current color looks spectacular. Understated and stately. It may not be what you had envisioned - but it is super elegant looking right now. It's not "trying too hard" and there is a lot of harmony between the materials. I REALLY like it. Was considering a similar look to my cedar house when I restained - love this tonal look.

Removal will destroy most or many of the shingles, so reinstallation will mostly likely never happen I have never seen real cedar shingles installed like that new, the gaps will get larger due to contraction (both seasonal and just because that is what the shakes will do). I would get a hold of the rep and have them look at the installation. These look like Red Cedar, is that correct?

I think the gray color they are and the light gray they will be is just right for your house. You dont want them browner, because, you have a dark gray roof. What you have goes nicely. I agree, the cedar shakes, look a bit differently installed than I have ever seen before, and certainly different than your inspiration picture.
